Amish whirligigs for the garden — 26 designs, $58.50
Twenty-six hand-painted birds with vinyl wings that spin in any breeze, nearly all priced at $58.50. A 30-inch metal ground stake comes with each one, so there is nothing else to buy.
They are made by hand in family-owned Pennsylvania shops and ship from the shop that built them.

Whirligig, wind spinner, or weathervane?
Three terms that get used as though they mean the same thing. They do not.
A whirligig is the folk-art original: a wind-driven object with moving parts. The bird-with-spinning-wings form is the one most people picture, and it is what this collection is. The term is old, American, and predates every marketing department that has since borrowed it.
A wind spinner is the modern retail name for the same thing, or for any garden object that rotates in the breeze — including metal kinetic sculptures with no bird involved. If you searched for a wind spinner and landed here, you are in the right place.
A weathervane does a different job entirely: it points into the wind to show direction. It rotates, but it is an instrument, not a toy. It is not what this collection is.
Plowcraft’s pieces are whirligigs — the bird body stays put, the wings spin.
How they are built
The wings are vinyl. Vinyl holds paint and survives a winter better than a thin wood blade, which is why it is the standard for this form across the whole category.
The bodies are cut from MDO or plywood — 45 listings across Plowcraft’s 146-piece catalog use MDO or plywood, 26 of them specifying MDO plywood. Twenty-five listings across the catalog describe their maker as Amish.
The 30-inch metal ground stake is included, not an accessory. Push it into soft ground, done.
Where to put one
Whirligigs need wind to do anything, which sounds obvious and is the thing people get wrong. A whirligig tucked against a house wall or behind a hedge will sit still most of the year.
Places they work: along a walkway, at the end of a vegetable bed, on the windward corner of a lawn, anywhere with an open line to the prevailing breeze. The motion is also a mild, non-chemical deterrent for birds picking at a vegetable patch — that is a side effect, not a claim about effectiveness.
At $58.50 with the stake included, these are the piece people buy two or three of and stagger down a path.
What buyers say
Whirligigs are lightly reviewed — two of the 70 most recent reviews, against a shop rating of 4.8 across 458 reviews and 1,724 orders since 2021.
“Love the color and size of oriole.”
A buyer reported a raven whirligig where a shipping label was created but the carrier never received the item. It is in the public record and worth knowing. If a date matters, call before ordering rather than after.
Ordering
Flat-rate shipping. Listings show Quick Ship (2–3 business days) or Ships in 15 (within 15 business days, generally built to order at the shop). Tracking follows when it exists.
Returns: within 14 days of receipt for any reason, free return label, purchase price refunded; a 10% restocking fee applies to most returns and is waived for a defective item or a Plowcraft error in size or colour. If a package arrives visibly damaged, refuse it, have the carrier return it to sender, and get in touch. Questions about how a specific design is painted, joined or balanced go directly to the shop that builds it.
