The gap between one of these and a hardware-store chime is the difference between a jingle and a note.

What makes a chime sound deep

Length. A longer tube vibrates more slowly than a short one, and a slower vibration is a lower pitch. This is why a 60-inch chime sounds nothing like a 30-inch chime of the same design, and why the price range inside each series above tracks the tone as much as it tracks the material cost.

Wall thickness and tube diameter matter too — they affect how long the note sustains and how full it sounds rather than how low it starts.

The practical version: if you want deep, buy long. Within any of the ten series, the top of the price range is the deepest-sounding version of that series. The Twilight series, running $232.20 to $480.60, and the Wind Harp Collection at $426.60 are the two largest in the collection.

Choosing between the series

Each series is tuned as a set, so the differences between them are differences of character rather than of quality.

  • Whispers in the Winds ($54.00–$115.20) is the entry point and the lightest voice in the collection.
  • Pacific Winds and Rustic Rhythms sit in the middle of the range.
  • Biblical Bells and Musical Zenith move up in size and price.
  • Ozark Echoes and Ultimate are the larger everyday chimes.
  • Twilight and the Wind Harp Collection are the statement pieces.

We are building a full series-by-series comparison with sound samples as a separate page. Until it exists, the individual listings carry the sizes, and the shop that builds them will answer specific questions about tone directly.

Where to hang one

A chime needs moving air and clearance. Under a covered porch it will sound less often but stay out of the weather. In an open yard it will sound more, and it will sound at three in the morning when the wind picks up — which is worth thinking about before you hang a 60-inch chime near a bedroom window, yours or a neighbour’s.

The Wind Chime Display Stand at $565.00 exists for people who want the chime somewhere there is nothing to hang it from. The Hook Collection runs $26.00 to $69.00.

Who makes them

All twelve chime listings carry the Lambright name. Lambright is one of six family-owned shops that account for nearly the whole 146-piece Plowcraft catalog, alongside Beaver Dam Woodworks, Brookside Woodworks, Summitville, Lapp’s Toys and Ebersol Poly.

Plowcraft does not manufacture. It is a storefront so that shops like Lambright can sell directly rather than only through wholesale, and each piece ships from the shop that made it. Small family shops of this kind are the backbone of the craft economy in this part of Pennsylvania.

Ordering

Flat-rate shipping. Listings show Quick Ship (2–3 business days) or Ships in 15 (within 15 business days, generally built to order at the shop). Tracking follows when it exists. Some buyers have reported orders running past the stated window — chimes are a common gift, so if a date matters, call before you order.

Returns: within 14 days of receipt for any reason, free return label, purchase price refunded; a 10% restocking fee applies to most returns, waived if the item was defective or if Plowcraft got the size or colour wrong. If a package arrives visibly damaged, refuse it, have the carrier return it to sender, and get in touch.
